The commissioning of the domestic satellite system Palapa in 1976 opened up many new opportunities in the Indonesian telecommunications sector. PT Elektrindo Nusantara was established 7 years later, in 1983, to capitalize on the increasing demand for earth station to support this expanding system. In keeping with the government's policy of developing indigenous industrial capability in the sector, the company adopted as its corporate mission the pursuit of technical excellence in telecommunications.

Elektrindo Nusantara started of as an engineering service company by being the subcontractor to Hughes Aircraft Company for their earth stations project. Later the government encouraged the development of manufacturing capability in line with the policy of national industrial development. Since then in 1985 Elektrindo embarked upon developing its production capabilities, starting with simple assembly of modified earth station components. Soon, it became clear that in order to keep up with the rapidly changing technology it has to develop its own new products and more advanced manufacturing techniques to fulfil to growing domestic marked needs. In 1986 Elektrindo decided to enter into R&D program in order to develop its technological and manufacturing know-how, as well as developing its human resources. This requires large investments including physical facilities and sophisticated instrumentation.

Initially the company concentrate in engineering technical updates of imported earth station electronic products. In the course of engineering and product development activities, we use advanced tools such as computer aided design and engineering (CAD, CAE). In the recent years, we have also developed advanced digital signal processing technology to replace conventional analog designs, and produce products with superior performance and economics benefits.

Now, Elektrindo Nusantara is capable of producing high quality and reliable, advanced telecommunications products, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies, including surface mount technology (SMT). The company possesses experienced professional staff and assembly workers which are capable of producing a wide range of products, ranging from sophisticated satellite SCPC modems, Digital Echo Cancellers, PCM multiplexers for microwave and fiber optics transmission, C-Band up and down converters, earth station computer controllers, and complete earth stations for satellite telecommunications (has now been installed at over 150 earth station locations throughout the country).
